So I was at the biggest blogger gathering in Malaysia organized by Nuffnang last night. I reached quite early at around 8pm. I immediately searched for the Nuffnang booth and found 2 lovely ladies sitting behind the counter. I recognized Wen-Qi (from Timothy’s blog), so I went over and passed my IC to her. I asked if the girl beside her was Samantha and she said “No”. Only then did I know that Samantha=Wen-Qi … Wen-Qi=Samantha. My apologies.

Around 10 minutes later, I met up with Timothy. Finally, I get to meet one of the brains behind Nuffnang. We chatted for a few minutes before he returned to serve the other guests and VIPs. Below is part of our conversation …

Timothy: *staring at me*

Kelwin: What?

Timothy: Oh, nothing. It’s just that you look different from what I thought you would look like.

Kelwin: Errr…what do you mean?

Timothy: Well, since you are a Tech blogger, I thought you would look like … you know …
*uses thumb and index finger to make a circle on both hands and putting them around his eyes indicating spectacles — geek*

Kelwin: *laughs*

Anyway, the movie was great. However, I did get lost here and there throughout the movie (spare me the rod, I haven’t watched Dead Man’s Chest). A big thank you to Exabytes for sponsoring a set of popcorn and soft drink.

Bloggers that I saw (and could recognize) are Earl-Ku, Zeo, Wingz, Jeff Ooi, Timothy, Shireen, Jayelle, Suanie and ShaolinTiger. However, bloggers that I approached and had a conversation with are only Timothy, Shireen and Jeff Ooi (reason below). In the cinema, I sat on the right maybe 1/3 from the back. Shireen was sitting in front of me. On my left was a guy who said he has a blog at Anakdatuk.com (if I’m not mistaken).

All in all, everything was great. So why did I say it was a disappointment? I took a 3 and a half hours bus to join the gathering hoping to chat with at least a dozen people (bloggers), shake at least a dozen hands and take at least a dozen photographs. In the end, I spoke to 3 people, shook 3 hands and took 2 photographs. To rub it in, those 2 photographs were self shots of my gf and I.

Yeah yeah, I know — my fault. For the whole night, my gf was like, “Why don’t you just go up to them and socialize a bit instead of sitting here in a corner?” I was like, “Errrr…shy mah”. She gave me that bored stare and gave up persuading me. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not anti-social or anything. It’s just that, it takes some time for me to “warm up” with new faces. Once everything is nicely warmed up, that is when the “hell” in me breaks loose.

I wonder if I would still be that lucky to get a place for the next round of gathering. Or am I just a “waste of space”? I still feel a little disappointed up to now. Arrggghh…whatever. My fault. *goes back to room and stares at the wall*

    @earl-ku
    Yes, I know. I admitted many times in my post already :-( It’s just a built-in feature in me (excuse)…hard to kick it. Next time I’ll stand on a table yelling, “I’m Kelwin aka TenthOfMarch. Who wants to talk to me?” But if like that a bit thick skin. Hahahha.

    @suanie
    Haha. Same problem here. If I don’t smile (as in neutral face), I look “angry”. I don’t know why, maybe I have that serious looking neutral face.

    My close friends back in Uni told me that back then in the early days…some of them felt that I am arrogant and lansi. Most of them spoke in Mandarin and my Mandarin suck big time. That’s why I didn’t speak much. But after a while of getting comfortable with each other and I let myself loose, they start calling me “siao” (crazy). Hahaha.

    @Yatz
    Hahaha.

    @nyx
    Yeah, keeping my fingers crossed.

  7. Wingz says:

    @Wingz
    LOL. But you are famous blogger. Your photo everywhere can find, so it’s impossible not to know you. Also Nuffnang’s featured blogger.

    @earl-ku
    I think they should. I don’t see anyone else winning the trip. Very very sporting.

  11. Bat says:

    Arghh..I didn’t have a chance to attend it, but it is my fault after all, not posting the entry..haha..Kelwin, where’s the photo? I want to see it..hehe..

  12. a last minute phone call membatalkan my plan up to KL… damn!!! i soooooooo wanted to be there…. and maybe be there and sit around in the corner? hahaha… but from what i gathered so far, many bloggers were as shy as you, no?

  13. cely says:

  14. CincauHangus says:

    this is sad.. no one knows mee.. :(

  15. Chan Kelwin says:

    @Bat
    The photo of my gf and I? Cannot lerr..she don’t let. Haha.

    @Mossie`Ol Chin
    Yeah la. I read a few posts saying they were also shy. Strange thing is, some of them are actually “veteran” bloggers. Still shy one meh? LOL.

    @cely
    Very hard to say. I could have walked past you without you knowing it was me, or me knowing it was you. Anyway, suanie looked a little different with the pirate costumes on. I almost couldn’t recognize. While FireAngel looked so different. I can’t even recognize her in the photo at Jayelle’s blog.

    @CincauHangus
    I thought I saw some photos of you and some other blogger some where?

  16. CincauHangus says:

    yes that’s true.. but still.. no one said hi.. =’(

  17. hanneng says:

    I feel that you should make the first move.

    Next time, just say Hi and do a very quick self-introduction.
    Also, hand your personal name card (not your business one) with your domains, email printed to new friend.

    You will gain more popular in no time

  18. Chan Kelwin says:

    @CincauHangus
    Maybe we need to be as popular as the other big name bloggers for people to come up and say hi. First step is to post up a photo of ourselves on our blog. LOL.

    @hanneng
    Haha. I know. Maybe the next time I’ll just walk up to them and say hi. Not too sure about the personal name card though. Might look a little “business” like.

  19. earl-ku says:

    we must make sure them two suanie and fa wins the contest, or else flame kau nuffnang kau kau …

    hahahahha coz it is true indeed that only two of them got their pirates costume on … wahahahahhahaha

    flameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  20. Chan Kelwin says:

    @earl-ku
    What are you doing up so early? Anyway, I do agree. The two of them were the most obvious and sporting. They should win the contest. If they don’t win, I will sponsor the charcoal. Hahahhaa.

  21. Aaron@AxiaL says:

    I was there! Hahaha~ Let us all meet up and shake hands the next time around.

  22. Chan Kelwin says:

    @Aaron@AxiaL
    Yeah, we should. Until next time then.

  23. Wilson says:

    oh yes, thats me alrite. the one beside you. was that jeff ooi in front of us?
    hey man, at least you do know a few people around.
    i was like totally out of place. among those that i recognize were just tim, fireangel and nicole.
    i was still contemplating on whether should i go or not before that.
    what the hell, i’m just staying across the road might as well go since i have a free ticket.

  24. Chan Kelwin says:

    @Wilson
    Hi Wilson. Didn’t get your name the other day. I only know Shireen who was sitting in front of us. I didn’t see where Jeff Ooi sat in the cinema. I thought he sat at the back at the VIP row?

  25. Wilson says:

    lol… i don’t know who is jeff ooi… nor i knew where he was sitting. i guess to me, the guy in front was looking a bit the same like him. u came all the way from ipoh just for the movie??

  26. Chan Kelwin says:

    @Wilson
    I’m not from Ipoh. I’m from Kuantan, Pahang. Yes, I went all the way but not just for the movie. As I said, it was for the hand shakes, photos and to meet up with the others but I didn’t do much of those. Hehehe.
