Some recent events around me triggered a question in me.
Life is short. How am I living it?
I’ve done some searching on Google on “life is long” and “life is short” and wanted to post the results but found another blogger who have done the same thing a year back. I guess geeks tech guys use the same methodology to approach a problem — they do the Google dance. The result for “life is short” turned out to be 10 times more compared to “life is long”. I wonder if that means that life is indeed short.
When we talk about life being short, the common advice one might receive is “live life to the fullest”. The question is, “How does one live life to the fullest?” While searching at Google, I stumbled upon a wikihow that is supposed to be a “how-to manual” that guides an individual on how to live life to the fullest. One of the steps mentioned is to have goals in life.
Some of the goals that people may want to achieve include being famous, rich, popular, power, etc. What disturbs me is the way some people chose to achieve such goals. Ethics and integrity does not seem to have a place in some of these individuals. The wikihow warned:
Don’t feel jealous of people who are either better looking or have more money, or for that matter have anything that you don’t but desire. Try to achieve it by working hard and making things work for you. Beauty and materialistic things in life don’t last very long. What lasts is your soul. So it is important to have a clean and beautiful soul.
“…important to have a clean and beautiful soul”. That sounded like some typical religious man’s advice. Seriously, does ethics and integrity matters? Who gives a damn if you achieved your goals through unrighteous means? At the end of the day, you get to live the “rich and famous” way while those talking behind your backs have “plain and ordinary” lives.
After all, life is short. How are you living it?

haha, that’s coz more people are worried about short lives than long ones. i’m worried about the latter. i rather live fast, quick and satisfying than long, dragged and meaningless.
i think it’s important to have goals that are not the society’s expectations, but just to live up to your own instead.
So many things. So little time.
Sometimes all you need is a purpose and the drive to take you there. Then no matter what happens, everything has its meaning.
I’ve been thrown into a river where normal life flows.
And I dont wish to swim back.
I live life hornyly of couse.Of couse once in while ‘hiccup’ do occure. Important things is u must lead a happy life. Long or short does’t matter.BTW how do u define long or short anyway? How long is long, & how short is short?? So to me, simple do what I like or enjoy doing, eat what I enjoying eating.Have a nice day.
just live it they way you want to live it.
Hi! I’m a volunteer editor over at wikiHow and came across your entry via Google blogs.
I think living life to the fullest is so subjective, ideas vary and the article should be edited to reflect that. Since it’s a wiki article, you should feel free to edit the article or leave discussion page comments. The articles don’t start out perfect and they need that kind of input to improve and evolve over time.
Sorry for the late reply. My server was down the other day and I was kinda busy.
@chloe
True, but does ethics and integrity matters when we pursue our goals? For example, some people will do anything and everything just to achieve their goals, even if they are breaking the law.
@Edrei
Yeah, that’s why I stated that life is short. So many things to do, yet so little time for it.
@tk2
Good that you know what you want.

I don’t know the right way to measure life being long or short. At times, it seems like time passes by so quickly. Good for you that you have a simple way to live your life happily. Maybe I shouldn’t complicate it too much.

Straight to the point. LOL.

It is very subjective. Each person may have their own perception on the subject. I may contribute something to the wiki when I am able to find some time.
