10 A Reminder To All Blogathon-ers, Take Time To REST!
Posted by Chan Kelwin in Blogathon 2007As I mentioned in my earlier post, I had the problem where both my eyes are unable to focus on an object properly. Blogging/chatting/typing on the computer for so many hours without adequate rest can result in really bad physical problems later. That’s what they call as Repetitive strain injury (RSI).
According to wikipedia, RSI “is any of a loose group of conditions from overuse of the computer, guitar, knife or similar motion or tool”. When you are staring at the monitor for hours, you may develop the Carpal tunnel syndrome.
Some of the warning signs may include:
- Recurring pain or soreness in neck, shoulders, upper back, wrists or hands.
- Tingling, numbness, coldness or loss of sensation.
- Loss of grip strength, lack of endurance, weakness, fatigue.
- Muscles in the arms and shoulders feel hard and wiry when palpated.
- Pain or numbness while lying in bed. Often early stage RSI sufferers mistakenly think they are lying on their arms in an awkward position cutting off circulation.
The blogathon is still a long way to go. I’m taking a break at least every 10 posts or so. Take a walk after finishing a post or two. Give your body a stretch. Don’t forget your arm, wrist and fingers! While you are at it, gently massage your eyes as well. I hear that helps.
