A taxi driver in the Philippines found a bag containing $17,000 in cash that was left by his customer one day. His wife was in the hospital and his house rental was overdue. Instead of keeping the cash, or at least part of it, he went to the nearest police station and passed it to the police station.

At the same time, his customer was just making a police report when they met. The bag was returned to the owner and the customer gave the taxi driver $32 as a reward.

My question is, “Was he being too honest, or just a bit foolish?”

If he were to keep the bag, he could have paid off his rent and his wife’s medical fees. However, what happens if he got caught?

On the other hand, it’s $17,000! That amount of money is equivalent to several years of his pay as a taxi driver.

What would you have done?

    The taxi driver did the right thing.

    I also think the taxi driver did the right thing. Sounds like the customer was quite a jerk though. You think you would offer a little bit more money if someone just returned your $17,000. Also, why did he have so much money just in a bag?

    agree that the taxi driver did the right thing. good karma will flow to him one day. at least that’s what i believe.

    Yeah, he did the right thing. And I am sure he must have felt better returning the money to the owner. But it would have been a better ending if the customer give more than $32 as a reward.
    But, goos thing will come to good people. Who knows if his wife and rent will be covered in a miraculous way? God has his way to reward us ;) Just have faith.

    Ok.

    Yeah, some people just don’t know how to properly reward others. Maybe he just stole them from the bank? LOL.

    @lazyfellow
    Well, do good, (hopefully) get good rewards.

    Hmmm…I couldn’t argue that :-) True, sometimes there are rewards that we can’t see.

    That customer should try leaving his USD 17,000 in the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

    LOL. Other places in Malaysia wouldn’t fare any better I guess.

    Wise man.

    You never know what link of the US%17,000 cash. If it belongs to terrorist group, corrupted government officer or even a triad, you will be in deep shit trouble.
