This post has been delayed for quite some time now. It’s a continuation of my day 1 and day 2 trip to Singapore which was over a month ago. Oh well, better late than never right?
In (almost) every Chinese marriage, there are some traditional marriage rituals that we (Chinese) follow. One of them is to check the couple’s birth dates to find the “right time” for the groom to meet the bride on the wedding day. My cousin’s time was in the early morning. That means she has to wake up at 6am to start dressing up, put on make up and continue with the other rituals. I woke up forcefully at 7.30am.
The groom came and the usual “pass these stages before you meet the bride” started. He was asked a few questions before he was allowed into the house. Some of those that I can remember (it’s already a month) are:
- What is her favourite food?
- What is her favourite colour?
- When was the first time they held hands (I think, don’t remember that well)?
- What was the first movie that the two of you watched together?
He was able to answer all of them after doing some thinking (although some with tips) except for question #4. They have been together for 9 years (I think). How in the world can anybody remember something that happened so many years ago? He tried real hard to recall but failed. That is when the best man asked the girls, “Can we buy the answer for this question?”
The truth is, there must be at least one or two questions that are impossible to answer. Or else, how would it be possible for the “sisters” to get their “bribe money”?

The wedding that I attended in Batu Pahat….. The bridgegroom have to eat wasabi, tear off hair & give ‘ang pow’ before he can enter the bridge house!
@HORNY ANG MOH
Wah! So pity. LOL. The friends didn’t help to eat meh?
aiyoooo.. what are the heng tai doing???
hehehe.. my friend’s wedding was about the same case. the heng tai only stand around and “pai leng” (look pretty). so, the groom has to “gao tim” all the stuff by himself.
