Malaysian Government May Sue Bloggers And YouTube (Google)

After being pressured and even receiving death treats, Namewee has decided to apologize to those who were offended by his Negarakuku rap. MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has accepted his apology and urged the others to do so as well. Even Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin has accepted the apology saying, “He is still young. We should not be too hard on him but he should learn from this, particularly in handling sensitive issues”.

So, is this the end of the whole controversy? No chance.

TheStar reported that “Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the Cabinet had decided yesterday that they were not in the position to forgive him and that ‘the law would have to take its course’”.

Why not let the issue rest and let’s continue with our “peace-loving” ways? Our 50th independence anniversary is just 2 weeks away. Or is Namewee just a pawn in a game of chess?

About the title of this post…

The report also stated that Nazri “said that he wanted action to be taken against video-sharing portal YouTube and other bloggers who have allowed sensitive material to be published that went against the law of our country”.

Wow! Google probably has a few lawsuits going their way but I’m quite sure this is the first time a government is thinking of suing them.

Nokia Replacing BL-5C Batch Of Batteries

TheStar reported today that Nokia has announced that a batch of BL-5C batteries was prone to overheating during charging. If you are a Nokia user, check if you are using that batch of battery. If you see a BL-5C anywhere at all, you’re it. You are allowed to have a replacement for your battery from Nokia. Just go to their battery replacement page and fill up the form.

You will need to key in the 26 digit product identification number that is printed on the battery itself. If your key is approved, you’ll be sent to the next page to fill up your mailing details.

You will be sent a replacement battery together with instructions on how to send the old battery back to them. The replacement battery and the whole process *should be* free.

I am one of the “lucky” ones to have the BL-5C batch, that’s why I’m writing this post ;-) After filling up the form and clicking on the submit button, I was sent to the previous screen instead. I’m not sure if my form is sent successfully. There were no confirmation email sent to me that it was received. I might contact them again if I don’t hear anything from them after a week or so.

The Shit That Caused Negarakuku Rapper Problem

Who doesn’t know the Negarakuku song? Thanks to the publicity by the local newspapers, the rapper was even interviewed by Taiwan reporters. Anyway, do you remember the part where he rapped about “your shit is fragrant”? The screenshot of the video is below.

Namewee's Negarakuku Video

Guess what? I found that same shit that he used. It’s none other than the one from the Perfect Shit. OKOK. He didn’t get into trouble because of this shit. It was a catchy title, right?

The Perfect Shit

I’ve read through comments in Youtube and some other website on this issue. It’s very tough holding back not to add my 2 cents to it. Anyway, it’s just very very sad and terrifying to see some of the comments made. What has Malaysia become? I know that some of those extreme comments don’t reflect the majority of Malaysians but no matter how small that group is, it might still grow.

His video may or may not have offended part of the community but does that justify the “response” given by some quarters? If he has broken any law, let the law run its course. What have we become? Judge Dredd? “One man is Judge, Jury, AND Executioner”?

Just so that no one misunderstands my words, “that group” I was referring to doesn’t represent a “certain group” in the society. There are verbal threats and attacks going on from all sides…left right, right left, up down, down up, inside out, 3rd to 4th dimension…

Sad, very sad indeed.

Whatever happened to the “we are one” spirit? I thought Malaysia has always been proud of its multiracial community and how everyone can live in peace. I thought we boast to the world about how unified we were? I thought we were “the example” for other countries?

Maybe that’s just what we were taught in schools? I’ve never used half of the things I’ve learned from school. Some of the things I’ve learned from university have already been outdated by the time I enter society.

Namewee’s Cute Girls Youtube Video

Our Negarakuku singer has just posted a new video. I can’t read Chinese. Therefore, the only words that I can read are “Cute Girls”. Enjoy the video and try not to drool on the keyboard.

Singapore Trip Day 3: Get The Bride… (Part 1)

This post has been delayed for quite some time now. It’s a continuation of my day 1 and day 2 trip to Singapore which was over a month ago. Oh well, better late than never right?

In (almost) every Chinese marriage, there are some traditional marriage rituals that we (Chinese) follow. One of them is to check the couple’s birth dates to find the “right time” for the groom to meet the bride on the wedding day. My cousin’s time was in the early morning. That means she has to wake up at 6am to start dressing up, put on make up and continue with the other rituals. I woke up forcefully at 7.30am.

The groom came and the usual “pass these stages before you meet the bride” started. He was asked a few questions before he was allowed into the house. Some of those that I can remember (it’s already a month) are:

  1. What is her favourite food?
  2. What is her favourite colour?
  3. When was the first time they held hands (I think, don’t remember that well)?
  4. What was the first movie that the two of you watched together?

He was able to answer all of them after doing some thinking (although some with tips) except for question #4. They have been together for 9 years (I think). How in the world can anybody remember something that happened so many years ago? He tried real hard to recall but failed. That is when the best man asked the girls, “Can we buy the answer for this question?”

The truth is, there must be at least one or two questions that are impossible to answer. Or else, how would it be possible for the “sisters” to get their “bribe money”?

(photos of the wedding food coming up next…)
