It has been a long time since the last time I downloaded torrent files. It is another great way of sharing files through P2P. There’s a variety of things that people are sharing (be it legal or not) such as movies, videos, mp3s, games and software.
The problem arises when our internet connection is throttled. From what I’ve read in the past, the connection speed is controlled so that you do not exceed a certain download/upload speed. This usually happens when a user is sharing torrents files. For example, your connection may be able to serve up to 70kbps but when you are torrenting it could drop to 30-40kbsp.
Even though I’m quite annoyed by the fact that my download speed could have been throttled, I am more irritated by the fact that my internet connection was cut off when I’m running BitComet. Without fail, the connection will live no longer than 15 or so minutes before it drops off. I will have to restart the modem every time this happens.
I’ve just tried out utorrent and my internet connection was never cut off even after an hour of use. One disadvantage of utorrent is that the download speed seems to be a lot slower than of BitComet (+/- 15kbps vs +/- 30kbps). Just to prove that Streamyx drops my line when BitComet is in use, I ran the program and my connection was dropped almost immediately after that.
I know of another program, TuoTu which seems to be quite fast. However, it’s in Mandarin and I can’t understand a word of it. Any suggestions on a program to use?

Following the controversial pole by Alonso at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the stewards have since investigated the incident and came to a conclusion. Alonso will lose 5 grid positions on the starting grid while McLaren will lose all (if any) points scored in the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix. The stewards’ full verdict can be found here. McLaren will appeal the stewards’ decision.
This race should be an exciting one. If only Massa didn’t encountered problem during his Q2 run, he should be ahead of Alonso as well. Let’s see how things pan out.
On an unrelated incident, Fisichella will also lose 5 grid positions at the starting grid after unnecessarily obstructed Sakon Yamamoto in qualifying.

Yesterday’s Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying saw one of Formula One’s most controversial incident after Monaco 2006 where Michael Schumacher “parked” his Ferrari at the last corner at the dying seconds of qualifying. There seems to be two group of supporters — one who blames Hamilton for the whole incident and another accusing Alonso for deliberately holding up Hamilton for over 10 seconds in the pits.
The latest report indicated that Ron Dennis is blaming Hamilton for the controversial pit lane incident after ignoring instructions from the team to allow Alonso to pass him during the start of Q3. So, is it really Hamilton’s fault? Or has Alonso messed up and Ron Dennis is just covering up for him and the team?
Firstly, it was reported that Ron Dennis had hard words with Alonso’s personal physiotherapist at the end of qualifying. It is also “alleged by media sources that Alonso had only vacated his pit box after a furtive signal from the physio”.
Secondly, a driver’s “signal” to leave the pit box comes from the lollipop man. If the team wants to hold the driver back for a certain period, the message will be radioed over to the lollipop man. It was evident that the lollipop man raised the lollipop after holding up Alonso for a few seconds. However, Alonso didn’t move until 10 seconds later.
This is a disgusting sight to me. Even though 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher has had his own controversial moments, he was also penalized for some of them. One of them was in Monaco 2006 where he received a 10 place penalty for his deliberate action. Therefore, I strongly think that Alonso deserves some kind of penalty for his unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Ron Dennis is probably blaming Hamilton to avoid Alonso from getting a penalty for his actions. If the recent spy controversy involving McLaren has not done enough damage, they must have successfully wrecked their credibility with this incident. This is Formula One at its “best” for you. Enjoy it!

To me, UUM has been famous for imposing its rather strict dress code on their students. From what I can recall, male students are required to wear a necktie at all times. That means formal wear each and every day! Meanwhile, the female students are barred from wearing jeans or even skirts.
I graduated from another local university that is more lenient on their dress code (ie. casual wear and jeans are allowed). Therefore, I feel that UUM’s dress code is rather overstrict. It’s a university for goodness’s sake not a military camp! However, I have a friend who graduated from UUM saying that guys actually looked quite smart and cute with a necktie. So, I guess it’s not that bad afterall.
Just two weeks ago, UUM has denied imposing a new dress code ruling on its students. However, Nanyang Siang Pau has just reported that a few female students received notices for wearing skirts. So, is this a case of an overzealous warden or the lack of knowledge over the new dress code?
I will repeat myself by saying this: It’s a university, not a military camp! Those students are already in their early 20’s. Restricting their will by imposing strict dress code like these is like forcing a 3 year old to drink milk from a milk bottle.
University is not just a place to acquire skills and knowledge. It’s a place to train and prepare youths for adulthood. I cannot comprehend how enforcing a ridiculous dress code like that could possibly nurture better graduates.
They should rather emphasize on decent wear. Jeans, skirts and t-shirts are proper decent wear too. I mean, as long as the clothes are not revealing (eg. showing undies, buttcrack or cleavage) just leave them alone! Bah!

Having a “wild” granddaughter like Paris Hilton can be a real headache. So, just how much can a 70-something old man take before blowing his top? Actually, quite a lot.
Billionaire Barron Hilton was agitated with his granddaughter’s driving violation stints. He even managed to somehow forgive the notorious 1 Night In Paris video that leaked into the Internet and sold in DVD format. However, it was the 23 days jail sentence that Paris received for violating her probation that caused his patience to dry up.
As a result of that, the billionaire was reported to have cut her inheritance. Paris is said to have lost possibly up to $60 million in inheritance.
Ouch…
