I saw a peaceful demonstration outside one of Kuantan’s Maybank branches yesterday. At least 20-30 people (some of which are Maybank’s staffs) were seen holding cardboards and singing slogans. Some of the writings include, “Bank Rompak Bonus Kami” and “Pihak Pengurusan Kurang Ajar…”. Bank staff members are also seen wearing badges that say, “Bank Rompak Bonus Kami”.
At least 5 police officers were seen at the incident. They are probably there to make sure things don’t go out of hand and to keep the traffic moving. I really wanted to take photos of the incident but realized I did not bring my camera along. Not even a camera phone! BAH!
I saw a Sinar Harian car some where nearby. I have no idea if they will be reporting this news in their papers today. I checked their website and found a similar demonstration was held in Alor Setar just a few days ago. It seems like the bank isn’t paying their 3 months bonus. That is a lot of money.

??? Bank got promise them or not ? Must ask my parents to kepoh this issue
i went to maybank yesterday in PJ and all the staff were wearing a button which said the same thing
shouldn’t bonus be performance based instead of being demanded through channels such as protests etc?
@Freethinker
No idea. They seems to be many unhappy faces. Most of the bank staffs, Maybank and Affin Bank are wearing the buttons on their shirt.
@nicktay
Yup. Must be trying to give pressure to the big guys.
@weng
I am not sure. I think bank staff’s are entitled for 3 months bonus max a year? Anyway, I read something about the top officials wanting to give them a 30% raise instead. However, 3 months bonus is a hell lot more than 30% increase. I guess that’s why they are making noise.
there is one in KL today. right outside the maybank office at jalan sultan ismail. i was just drving past and didnt manage to snap any photos.
hope some bloggers managed to get some photos cos the mainsteam will probably keep quiet on this.
@zewt
I think they are/will be having them throughout the country. Affin bank staff wore the badge previously but now no more. I think maybe they are paid already. Not too sure.
