How Deep Can We Clean Our Ears?

Mother cleaning baby's ear with cotton budThis is a continuation of my post on how deep should I poke into the ears.

I am sure most of you have cleaned the inside of your ears before. You may clean them using a tissue, a cotton bud, an ear pick or just by digging with your finger nail. Sooner or later (if it had not already happen), you may even be cleaning someone else’s ears. The question is how deep can we dig into the ears without injuring the eardrums?

I use either a cotton bud or an ear pick to clean my own ears. Although I have always wanted to dig and clean as deep as, I have never dared to insert them deeper than an inch. However, I have seen a lady in the hair saloon “jamming” a cotton bud a lot deeper into her ears than what I dare to. She was literally pushing slightly more than half of the cotton bud into her ears vigorously. I was probably more concerned about her than she was of herself.

I brought up this topic because I was at the hair saloon the other day and I saw a mother cleaning her daughter’s ears with a cotton bud. The girl must be less than 10 years old. She was covering her face with her hands and trying her best not to scream while her mother was doing the cleaning. It was obvious that she was feeling a lot of pain. I wondered if the mother poked too deeply into her ears.

Anyway, I have just read that it is not advisable to clean the inside of the ears with a cotton bud. Doing so may push the wax further into the ears or even injure the eardrum. Therefore, it is advisable to use cotton buds only to clean the external of the ears.

However, I am still not able to find the answer to my question — how deep can we put an object into our ears to clean it without hurting the eardrum (or any other things in it)? What do you use to clean your ears? How deep do you put it into your ears?

Remove Skype Virus dsc027.scr and wndrivsd32.exe

I have been getting a great number of visitors visiting my technology blog since last night. There are over 1,200 unique visitors the last time I checked the 103bees stats. The increase of visitors is between 8 to 10 times more than the normal traffic that I used to get. Exactly one week ago, I also managed to get this amount of visitors although not the same method was used.

Last week, most of the visitors came in through StumbleUpon (I will blog about this soon — I hope). However, over 50% of visitors found my blog through search engines today. What happened overnight? Did I become an SEO guru in 24 hours? Unfortunately, I did not.

Late last night, my parents were chatting with my sister through Skype and all of a sudden the computer seems to be attacked by virus. The computer was infected when a message was received with a link to the dsc027.scr file. I documented the whole encounter and how I remove the wndrivsd32.exe file and cleaned up all traces of it.

Many others must have been infected with the dsc027.scr file as well because I’ve been getting hits from all around the globe — Taiwan, Italy, Sri Lanka, South Afrika, UK, Norway, Germany, and the list goes on. Not only that, I am in the top 10 list of all keywords related to this Skype virus. In fact, most are in the top 3.

“Business” is good with the spread of this virus. The evil one in me hopes that it doesn’t disappear anytime soon. Another part which is more evil wishes for yet another virus to strike. LOL.

I Am Earning Five Figures A Month…not

I just got back from a yum cha session with two of my friends. One of them heard that I was blogging and was earning “quite a bit” from it too. When I asked him how much he heard I was earning, he answered, “errr…four, maybe five figures.” I almost fell off my chair. Who in the world is spreading this rumor? LOL.

How I wish I am earning four to five figures a month! I didn’t even reach the four figure income yet (in RM). Although I hope I will be able to do it this month. When there is a will, there is a way. I just hope my will is stronger than my lazy a$$.

How Deep Should I Poke Into?

Everyone has to start doing it one day. Before that day comes, I suggest you do some research and know exactly what you are doing. You do not want to be poking too deep because that may cause the person you are poking to hurt and bleed. On the other hand, you do not want to poke too shallow because that may not get the job done.

If you are still unsure about what to do, a good suggestion would be to ask someone more experience to show you how to poke. That way, you learn faster and do not risk poking too deep or too shallow. I heard from a friend that Indian barbers (or some other profession) are good with this technique. They have the tools, skills and precision to poke to the deepest without risking injury while ensuring maximum satisfaction.

Indian man cleaning another man's ear

This post is aimed to make you laugh. If you didn’t even chuckle a little bit, I failed miserably. Anyway, there is a reason why I am posting this up. I will blog about that after this. That will not be a funny post.

UPDATE: Just to make sure no one misunderstands this post, the “poking” I was talking about is cleaning one’s ears. How deep should or can we go into the ears before we hurt ourselves or others.

Old Habits Die Hard

I just got back from a memorial service that was held to mark the 1st anniversary of the death of my pastor’s wife. There were some food prepared for us after the service but I didn’t eat anything. The food looked great but I was too lazy to queue up. Another reason was that I just wanted to go home to blog and to finish up one of my “homework” that is due tonight. ;-)

This reminded me something that happened when I was a kid. I used to take piano lessons from this “Mr Money”. Some of his students called him that because he has a “Wang” in his name. Once, he told me that he received a card from his student that wrote, “Dear Mr. XXX YYY $$$$”.

Anyway, back to the story. One day, he bought some nice looking mechanical pencils and gave it to some of his students as a gift. I was one of the lucky ones. However, I did not accept the gift. He persuaded me for the next hour or so but I still rejected it at the end. I regretted it later.

A few days later when I was at a bookstore with my mom, I saw the same mechanical pencil and “forced” her to buy it for me. It costs some where between RM7 to RM15. That is damn expensive for a mechanical pencil. I should have just accepted it as a gift at the first place. Why didn’t I? Don’t ask me.

Back to the present time. Do I feel regret not eating at the end of the service? You bet. Now excuse me while I go eat the KFC my mom bought back for me. :-P
