Safety Measures To Follow During A Blackout

There were two blackouts in my town last month. It was terribly hot and I tried not to move around too much. That is why I tried to sleep as much as I could during the blackouts. We used torch lights to help us see in the dark. Some houses fortunate enough to have generators were able to generate electricity to switch on their lights and fans.

I did notice some houses using candle lights instead of torch lights. This should be avoided because lighting up candles increases the risk of a fire breakout. Below is a list of safety tips to follow during a blackout provided by the American Red Cross.

  • Only use a flashlight for emergency lighting. Never use candles!
  • Turn off electrical equipment you were using when the power went out.
  • Avoid opening the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Do not run a generator inside a home or garage.
  • If you use a generator, connect the equipment you want to power directly to the outlets on the generator. Do not connect a generator to a home’s electrical system.
  • Listen to local radio and television for updated information.

There are other useful tips as well such as how you can prepare yourself before a blackout happens, proper method to use a generator and how to avoid blackouts by conserving energy. Prepare yourself in case you experience a blackout. I hope I won’t be experiencing another blackout anytime soon.

Help Locate 17 Year Old Female RunAway

I read in the newspaper a few days ago regarding teenagers running away from home. I wonder who bear the responsibilities when cases like this happen — the parents or the teenager themselves. Maybe both parties share the responsibilities equally. Anyway…

Jean` reported that her 17 years old cousin sister ran away from home on Merdeka Day around 7pm. She might be heading to Ipoh from KL. Head over to her blog for photos and a phone number in case you might have bumped into her.

Help spread the news and do check her blog frequently for updates on the case. You don’t want this story to continue circulating in the blogosphere 2 years after the girl has been found and save at home.

Amazing Parrot Performance

I have always wondered why or how a parrot can “talk”. I have never tried it before but I have always thought that (given enough training and practice) parrots can repeat whatever is taught to them. I have seen on TV where dogs “sing”, bark, howl or whatever you call it but a bird? After all, the slang birdbrain does come from the fact that birds’ brains are small ;-)

Anyway, I found the video below and was totally amazed. Firstly, I can’t believe a bird can actually be trained to make so many sounds like that. Don’t forget that the parrot needs to know when and what sounds to make as well. Secondly, so much hard labor for only a piece of snack. *sigh* Birdbrain! LOL.
