Nikon D40x RSP At RM2,688

I checked the official Nikon Malaysia website and notice that the retail selling price (RSP) of the Nikon D40x is currently at RM2,688. I wonder why the shop in Kuantan I went the other day quoted me around RM2,800. It must have been the old RSP.

Nikon D40x retail selling price at RM2,688

I went into one of the shops in Digital Mall, PJ the other day. I think the name of the shop is Leos Com Trading. The guy asked for RM2,700 for the following items.

  1. Nikon D40x Kit
  2. 2GB memory card
  3. Tripod
  4. Nikon sling bag
  5. 1 year International warranty

I am still looking else where that can give me a better deal. Is there an LCD protector for the Nikon D40x? I am planning to ask him to give that to me free as well :-P If I am not able to reduce the price anymore, at least I am able to get more items for that price.

Are there any other items that I can/should ask for free? Once I get my hands on my PayPal funds, I will be off to the shop :-D

Maybe they have to sell higher the cover the transportation fee?

Hmmm…I don’t know how Nikon deals with their authorized dealers. I don’t think Nikon charges the dealers any transportation fees. However, it could be possible that dealers in places like KL, penang, etc (where demand is high) are able to order more units at one time, thus they could have been given a discount. Not too sure though.

since u in PJ, go down all the way to bukit bintang and ask around shops inside one by one — even they have same shop name, but their prices are different… get the cheapest and then u can buy it directly ..

      happy shooting!

I really hope I can get my PayPal funds out and buy the camera asap. I am not from PJ actually. I am from Kuantan. I will need to go all the way to KL just to buy the camera on one of the weekends. I wonder if some shops selling so cheap whether I can still ask for free stuffs like tripod? I will try and look around. Thanks.

Do you think it’s worth it to buy a Nikon D40x in Malaysia or.. in Australia for instance? Price wise.

      @Adriana
That is a tough question. You are in Malaysia right? If you were to buy from Australia (or other countries), how do you plan to buy? Online shopping? Or you will be going for a holiday?

The last time I check the price for the Nikon D40x online, it costs around RM2,500 after conversion. I heard there are shops in Lowyat selling it for RM2,300+ to RM2,500+. I can’t be sure but as long as you can bargain with the guy and buy it cheaper, I don’t see why we should buy from other place. Unless it is a lot cheaper that is. You’ll need to scout around for the price in other countries though.

Actually no, I’m in Australia right now. I was planning on buying the camera online from eBay. But then again, you can’t really know whether the parts are genuine and most cameras doesn’t come with the manufacturer warranty.

I’m desperate for a camera but now that you’ve told me the price they sell in LOwyat, I’ll probably wait ’til I go back to Malaysia in future. I heard that the prices of cameras are going down. That’s good if I’m heading back there in December, around Christmas time.

Oh, I do not dare to buy things from Ebay. The rule of purchasing something there is that, “if you can’t afford to lose the thing you pay, do not buy it”. Something as expensive as a digital camera is best NOT do be bought through ebay. Since you will be back in December, I think you should wait until then and get one from lowyat.

However, I was told the price of RM2,300+ to RM2,500+ from some other guy. So, I cannot confirm this. I hope it is true though. I will check it out the next time I head to KL.
