SMS Spam From 014-22306XX. Is It From Maxis?

I am sick and tired of getting SMSes that is either promoting some ringtone or wallpaper downloads. A few months ago, I was “attacked” by three SMSes where one of them used sexual exploits to lure victims into subscribing to their service. What about the promised Maxis Anti-spam service that is supposed to be protecting me from getting these crappy SMSes?

I got the SMS below at 1.58pm today. Strangely, this SMS does not have the usual “mask” to hide its phone number. The number that sent the SMS is +601422306XX.

E bang, Demo nok download nada MP3 yg terkini ko? Tulih ON ST dan SMS ke 334XX. Tuk Mesej Cinta aku tulih ON LOVE dan hantar ke 334XX, meme beh glo.

I made a complaint to the MCMC for the previous SMS spam that I got but have not received a reply until today. I don’t think making another complaint will make any difference.

Added: Another blogger received the same message on her Raya celebration — Raya: Something for the handphone.

    I guess I’m not alone! I’ve been receiving this stupid text messages like so often that it wakes me up early in the morning. I’ll go for the SPAM part.

    Yeah…nowaday they are using normal phone number to spam people. So MCMC cannot do much on this as the number doesnt register to any company.

    Either they didn’t manage to plug a hole with an anti-spoof mechanism or, they’re using a device called a GSM modem or just plain ‘ol mobile phone to spam ppl. (^ ^)

    Wah, damn teruk like that. Btw, you can hear even a SMS coming in ah? Sometimes I hardly hear a phone call. LOL.

    I thought all phone numbers must be registered under someone? Why don’t they go get them? They will probably be giving excuses only.
