I had a nice long chat with Jason two nights ago about him having problems with his VMI card in PayPal and some other stuff about digital cameras and photography. Only then did I realize that the price for a D80 kit was only about RM3,500.

All this while, I thought the Nikon D80 was at least RM4,500 an above. If I know about it before I bought my D40x over two weeks ago, I would have definitely opted for the D80 instead. I will only have to pay less than RM100 extra per month. Furthermore, the D80 is more powerful and (if I am not mistaken) do not have problems with auto focus in older lenses that the D40x has.

Boo-sheet betul.

Anyway, it is my fault for not researching enough. Sheeeetttt!

    That’s also expensive to me… can’t afford a DSLR yet. Wahahaha…

    Price dropped, especially since D300 came out, D80 body is only RM2800 now, it’s a real bargain.

    Pack it up with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and you only looking at RM3150.

    D40/x don’t have a ‘problem’ with older lenses, the camera doesn’t have an AF motor built in, so it can’t support lenses with no internal focus. You can still buy Sigma HSM lenses and Nikkor AF-S lenses.

    Wahahhaa… You can still sell it away. :P

    The D80 kit is just the body and basic lens right?

    Still to pricey for me. *Sigh*… I’ll just sit back and dream-la. I pretend to hold my little PnS camera like DSLR style. :lol:

    The price will continue to drop. By the time you plan to get one later, you may get a better system with the same amount of money.

    @ShaolinTiger
    I didn’t know about the price drop. If I knew earlier, I would have gone for the D80 instead. Yeah, I didn’t mean that the D40/x has a problem, but its lack of support in auto focus in some lenses is a drawback. If I am not mistaken, the 50mm f/1.8D is one of those that can’t auto focus with it. Not to mention it doesn’t have an automated sensor cleaning system. There are dusts on my sensor already and I have never even removed the lens before :-(

    Having said that, the D40x is a good camera. I am still learning to handle it.

    @Jason
    Hahaha. If I were to sell it off, how much you recommend the price to be? Around RM2,200 maybe? I honestly will think about it if there is a buyer. HAHA.

    @Angie Tan
    Yup, the dslr body plus the kit lens. The D80 comes with a 18-135mm lens while the D40/x comes with a 18-55mm. Well, if you want something bad enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to get it ;-) hehe.

    Is there any scratches? Does it still look super brand new? If yes, sell it RM100-RM150 below the market price, am sure someone will buy from you. Advertise in LowYat or Lelong. If they ask whats the reason? Just say you feel it wasn’t a good buy / upgrading to D80 or something. Heh! Am sure someone is interested to buy ‘em.

    @Jason
    Brand new. I still keep all the boxes, manuals, paper, plastic bag, wires, everything! LOL. However, after thinking about it for a while I guess I’d rather use the extra money to get a lens and maybe some other upgrades.

  8. Jason says:

    Come on, you know you want that D80. D80… D80… D80… D80… :P

  9. Chan Kelwin says:

    @Jason
    Hahaha. Don’t tempt me already can or not? LOL. Wah, someone selling secondhand D80 in ShutterAsia for only RM2,400. He didn’t say body only so I assume the kit lens is included. *sigh*

    D80 also doesn’t have an automated sensor cleaning system.. just stick to wat u had bought, then next time will aim for D3 la.. LOL

  11. Chan Kelwin says:

    @np
    Oh, didn’t know about it. Anyway, I don’t plan to change camera body anytime soon. I’ll try to learn more on how to take a good photo before thinking of that. For now, I’m planning on getting a lens upgrade. The 50mm f/1.8D looks good — good and cheap. Too bad it doesn’t auto focus with the D40x. However, there is no stock in all shops now. Will have to wait for next week (hopefully).
