Did I mention that I will be checking out the pre-launch Nuffnang 2.0 at Nuffnang KL’s office last Friday? The meeting was scheduled at 3.30pm and I would be meeting up with Freethinker on the way. You can read his blog post on this. DustyHawk joined us as well.

I was at Lowyat buying my Nikon D40x before going to their office. I was almost late so I tried to be there as fast as I could. I went to the nearest Monorail station and asked the lady which is the nearest Star LRT station. I was in a hurry and didn’t even notice that I made a mistake. I should get on to Putra LRT instead because I need to go down at the Dang Wangi station. I probably wasted 10 minutes changing trains. Needless to say, I was late.

When I approached Freethinker, his back was facing me. Since he is the only person waiting at the exit, I guess that must have been him. I tapped his back and he turned around. I took a second or two to confirm it was him before saying hello. He looked a little different from the Facebook photo he put up in his blog. Timothy had the same reaction when the two met in the office.

Freethinker looking like Initial D character

I took the photo above in Nuffnang’s office. Looking at the photo reminds me of someone. Can you think of who this person is?

Bunta Fujiwara Initial D character

No, not Jay Chou. It is the other guy. Actually, he reminded me of Bunta Fujiwara, the taufu shop owner in the animated series. What do you think?

Anyway, we were shown the pre-launch Nuffnang 2.0 and were briefed by both Timothy and Firdauz. Since I promised Timothy I will not disclose anything, all I can say is that it looks pretty. You guys have probably seen the interface during the sneak peak in Singapore some time back. If everything goes to plan, it will be launched in a week’s time.

Below are some photos taken on that day.

I am still feeling a little disorientated from the weekend break I had. I didn’t know it is Deepavali today until someone reminded me yesterday. The truth is that I knew Deepavali was in this month but didn’t know the exact date. No wonder I saw the “decoration” thing on the floor when I was at Lowyat last weekend.

I will be visiting some friends tomorrow. It will be a great time to meet up some friends whom I have not met in months. Not to forget the curry and rendang that I will stuff in my stomach until it is bloated. Even thinking about it is making me hungry. It will also be a good chance for me to grab a few shots with my digital SLR.

Happy Deepavali 2007

Happy Deepavali and happy holiday everyone.

Yes, it is official. I am a proud owner of a Nikon D40x. I bought it at Lowyat last Friday. I went in every single store that sells Nikon digital cameras and asked for the cheapest price they can offer me. After weighing the pros and cons of each offer, I decided to buy from ENATA DIGITAL.

ENATA DIGITAL Andy

ENATA DIGITAL is the second shop (if I am not mistaken) on the left as you enter Lowyat from BB Plaza. I was served by a guy named Andy. I can’t help but to notice his ridiculous long eye lashes. Besides that, he is a really nice guy who has helped me in purchasing my first dslr. Below is the list of things I got with the purchase.

  • Nikon D40x Kit with AF-S DX 18-55mm lens
  • 2GB SD Card (Toshiba)
  • JENOVA DSLR camera bag
  • STEINZEISER SZ-88 tripod
  • LCD protector

Nikon D40x package

I also got two vouchers for Fotokem’s Fotobuk offer. It is a 20-page 6″ X 8″ photo album that we can customize with our photos. You can create the photo album using their software. There is no limit on the number of photos that you can fit in. You just need to decorate the photos for each page and they will print it out for you.

The Fotobuk costs RM59.90. The first voucher entitles me for a FREE Fotobuk and is valid for two months only. The second voucher offers a 30% discount and is valid for three months.

The cash price was RM2,450. I am not good at bargaining so I am quite sure you can further reduce the price if you are good at it. I bought the camera using credit card on a 12 month installment package. In the end, it cost me RM2,550 for the camera (bank charges included). I will need to pay RM210+ for the next 12 months for it. I say it’s worth it.

Actually, there is another shop that is willing to sell me the camera for RM2,450 (12 month installment). It is just a few shops away. The sign board indicates that it is a Digi shop but they are also selling cameras in it. I end up buying from ENATA DIGITAL because they gave me more confidence.

The Digi shop has a poster outside their shop that advertised the Nikon D40x was selling for RM2,399. So, it is possible to get the digital SLR for under RM2,400. You will just need to bargain your way to it.

After playing with the camera a bit, one of the major disadvantages I notice is the lack of zoom. My old Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3 had a 12X optical zoom that makes my new 18-55 lens feel like a kindergarten boy. I am already thinking of getting a 200mm VR lens. That will cost me around RM1,400 I think. A macro lens would cost another RM1K.

Shit. This new hobby is getting expensive.

I was in KL for a couple of days since last Friday. That is the reason for the lack of updates and not replying to comments. I didn’t plan to be away that long actually. Well, at first I did but then there was a change of plan. Just two hours before I was supposed to take a bus back home, I changed my mind again and extended my stay for the weekend.

There are a lot of things that I need to catch up on. I have some tasks pending before my trip and some new updates on the trip itself. I thought having a break can help restore a person’s energy but I am still feeling tired after my short break. I guess the hectic traffic and almost non-existing parking spaces in KL did contribute to the negative effects I am experiencing.

I guess it may take a few days before I get back to blogging at full speed. I believe I am experiencing a “holiday-hangover” or something. Who said taking a break is good for you? LOL.

I was happily driving to the Pos Laju office this afternoon to pick up a package. (Yes, my Public Bank Visa Electron debit card is here!) At around 4.07 to 4.08pm, the song Wake Up Call sang by Maroon 5 started sounding his my head. As my hand reached to switch on the car radio, the song got louder and louder (in my head). When the radio was switched on, guess what was on?

Note: Video contains elements that may offend some.

I bet some of you won’t even believe me. I felt a shiver as the song sounded over the radio. Is this just a coincidence or another sign sent to me?

Personally, I’d rather think that I could have some special “powers” or something. Maybe I am a physic? Or I have some built-in antenna to receive radio waves? I wonder that buzzing feeling I feel sometimes could be due to a Martian signaling earth to try and establish a communication.

Have you ever experienced such a phenomenon? Do you think this is some kind of an X-file thing or is it just another “ah, it’s just coincidence” thing?
