@uptowngal
Their rat trap didn't work at all. The sticky board worked quite well. The only problem is when the rat is too big, it can overpower the sticky board and escape, which did happened to the second rat they tried to trap. One day, the sticky board that they placed were gone. They found it some 20 feet away near the door. LOL.

I've had 2 rat experiences in my house too. Based on my experience and from what I hear from friends, poison isn't a really good option 'cos sometimes the rat doesn't die and leaves bloody shit (or worse - paw prints stained with blood) all over your bedsheets and stuff (no joke. My friend kena in the army).

My dad tried using a rat trap too... we caught one rat that way... but killing it thereafter was really difficult. I think my dad drowned it...

The "easiest" way to trap a rat (again according to my dad who tried various ways b4 we caught the 2 buggers), is to use those sticky boards. Though sometimes Mr. Lizard ends up at collateral damage...

@TNH
The girls were pretty enthusiastic about killing it, if they managed to trap it -- boiling water or burning inferno -- take a pick. LOL. However, honestly, I find it difficult doing it myself.

@simon
Poison seems the way to go but definitely not an option if there are kids around the house. Thankfully theirs do not. However, the problem with using poison is that they may die some where hidden and start to rotten and stink before you find it. They cornered it and placed some rat poison, the following day it was all gone (although some scattered in their hiding place). Not sure if the rat is dead. More importantly, where.

@Laura1318
The problem is when you have so many people in the house, it can be difficult to keep the place spotless. LOL, I like the poster and soft toy idea though. Never heard of it. Don't think it will work but hey, never try never know right? I hope a tiger toy will cause them a heart attack on the spot. LOL.

Prevention is better than cure. Keep your place clean and throw away those unwanted clutters which are favourite spots of rats.

Look for openings where rats could gain entry, and repair any cracks or gaps.

Maybe , you could paste some pictures of those fierce looking cats or buy a soft toy cat and place them where those rats frequent..LOL!
