Interesting findings all around the web and world.

I was just wondering when the fasting month will start. I have asked a few people but no one was certain of the date. Anyway, it was announced yesterday that Ramadan will be starting on 22/08/2009.

The quote below was taken from the MK article that I read:

Muslims in Malaysia will begin the Ramadan fast on Saturday, Aug 22.

The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Engku Tan Sri Ibrahim Engku Ngah, announced over TV1 on today night that the date was fixed with the consent of the rulers. - Bernama

Immediately, the phrase “today night” caught my attention. Today night? I seldom (almost never) come across that phrase. I had to check with Google to get a confirmation.

This English forum post pointed out that “today night” is wrong. Instead, it should have been “tonight”. Even then, the word “on” before that phrase should have been omitted.

TheStar article used “Thursday night” instead.

So, who’s to blame? MK or Bernama?

The Formula One 2008 Championship has just ended last weekend. Lewis Hamilton has been crowned the youngest Formula One world champion. It was one of the most exciting races I’ve seen in months, maybe a year a two. In fact, I don’t remember when the last time I ever felt so excited while watching an F1 race.

The last two laps of the Brazilian GP 2008 got half of the crowd watching the race across the globe to its feet when Sebastian Vettel overtook Lewis Hamilton. I was saying to myself, “Lewis, you did it again. You did it again!” Well, at least he was “doing it” again, that is, losing out the title right at the last moment.

But thanks (or no thanks depending on which side of the camp you are in) to Timo Glock who lost his 18 seconds lead to Hamilton on the last lap, the title was awarded to Hamilton on the last corner or two. Glock denied slowing down to allow Hamilton to pass him and puts the blame on the slick tyres he was on.

No one knows.

I am very surprised that there was no replay at all on Glock at the final lap showing him having trouble keeping his car on the road. If there is enough suspicion, I say the FIA should investigate into this matter. They can always view his telemetry data and video footage to identify any wrongdoings.

Remember when Michael Schumacher “parked” his car at the last corner in qualifying for Monaco GP a few years back? I know that nothing can change the standings as it is now. Even if Timo Glock were found guilty, it wouldn’t and shouldn’t change the driver’s championship standings.

However, some form of penalty should be taken upon Glock if he were found to be guilty. Crap like this shouldn’t be tolerated in Formula One.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for winning the 2008 driver’s championship. Felipe Massa did well as well. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for him. His family members who celebrated at the end not knowing that he had lost was a heartbreaking scene.

Why the “It’s finger lickin’ good” restaurant no longer called Kentucky Fried Chicken but referred to only as KFC? Is there something wrong with the food (eg. chicken) that KFC is serving to its customers?

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) rebranding itself

I have had a few conversations in the past on why KFC no longer use the name Kentucky Fried Chicken. Honestly, I never thought that there was anything fishy about it. To me, it was nothing more than a fast food chain rebranding itself. However, not everyone I spoke to shared the same sentiment.

“They can no longer use the name Kentucky Fried Chicken because the chicken they serve isn’t real chicken! I heard that the chickens they breed are genetically modified so that they do not have feathers on them. This will then save them time because they do not need to pluck them off their body.”

I have never read of stories where chickens were genetically modified to be featherless before. Therefore, I only took what I heard as a rumour. However, if people can clone a sheep and genetically modify a durian so that it does not stink, the featherless chicken claim sounds possible.

On top of that, I saw this video on YouTube starring Pamela Anderson that claimed that chickens served by KFC were abused during the breeding process. The video showed how the chickens were stepped on, thrown onto the wall and even kicked like a football by the workers in the slaughter house. Not a pretty sight to say the least.

However, I wasn’t just going to accept this hearsay as a fact without first doing some research myself. A quick search on Google revealed otherwise.

KFC Mutant Chickens
KFC — Urban Legends

You see, Kentucky Fried Chicken rebranding itself to KFC really has nothing to do with how their chickens look like pre-cooked. Firstly, the fast food chain was trying to get rid of an unhealthy image due to the word fried. Secondly, it wanted to lose deemphasize on the word chicken because they wanted to open up their menu to offer a more varied menu.

This is true, no? When you talk of KFC, chicken comes to mind. When you talk of McDonald’s, you have burger and fries.

Google has been doing the PR dance again lately. I am quite blessed with what I got. I wouldn’t be too happy about it though as I am taking a cautious approach to this. I fear it may change again in the near future causing some changes.

Anyway, the biggest PR juice loss that I know of up to know is Statcounter where it dropped from 10 to 6. However, I was surprised to see YouTube having a PR3 this afternoon. There is no way YouTube will ever be a PR3.

I checked Dig PageRank and noticed that there are a handful of 8 while the rest is 3. Could this round of update be a mistake or something? There is no way on (Google) earth that YouTube will be ranked 3.

I think one of my three wishes might just come true. I was scanning through my BlogRush widget and saw this article with the title, “Blogging Got You Out Of Shape?”. Although I wouldn’t credit my weight gain to blogging alone, it sure did contribute to some of it.

I clicked on the link and hoped for some recipes or suggestions that I can use. Instead, I saw this PC-desktop-treadmill combination “object”. The original article can be found at Engadget.

To type while walking should be okay but I am not sure if it is possible to type while running. The biggest disappointment of this will be the price tag — retail price at $6,500.

Can someone “build” me this PC-desktop-treadmill thing using custom table and a treadmill please? I think it would be cheaper that way.
