University Of Malaya Convocation 2007 Photos

As promised, here are some photos I took at the convocation I attended the other day. As usual, there was a large crowd of people. Some of the juniors were holding banners while calling out to their seniors.

If I didn’t tell you these photos were convocation photos and if you couldn’t read Chinese, you might even think it’s a pre-riot gathering or something. Don’t believe me? Below are photos with their “twisted” explanation at the bottom of each photo.

UM convo people holding banners

A large group of people holding banners.

UM convo crowd holding more banners

A closer look at one of the crowds. Angry mobs from the crowd staring at a passerby (who was strangely dressed in a funny looking outfit). Just look at them. They look so angry they might just start a fight right then.

UM convo more crowd holding banners

The crowd gets larger causing a traffic jam. The people look like they are shouting while holding up a banner with a dragon. You can see the fear in the uncle’s face (bottom left) as he walks away from the place.

UM convo crowd causing traffic jam

Massive traffic jam, again with a strange person wearing a silly outfit in the photo.

UM convo orange vs black crowd

Two groups of really angry looking people — orange vs. black.

UM convo man holding a stick

Things started to heat up. One guy from the black team holding a stick wanting to beat up some guy.

UM convo a group tossing a guy into the air

They started tossing people up into the air out of frustration. Strangely, a group of people is happily taking photos at the foreground.

UM convo a group tossing a girl into the air

Damn brutal — even girls were not spared.

A few more photos and maybe a video coming up.

Amazing Parrot Performance

I have always wondered why or how a parrot can “talk”. I have never tried it before but I have always thought that (given enough training and practice) parrots can repeat whatever is taught to them. I have seen on TV where dogs “sing”, bark, howl or whatever you call it but a bird? After all, the slang birdbrain does come from the fact that birds’ brains are small ;-)

Anyway, I found the video below and was totally amazed. Firstly, I can’t believe a bird can actually be trained to make so many sounds like that. Don’t forget that the parrot needs to know when and what sounds to make as well. Secondly, so much hard labor for only a piece of snack. *sigh* Birdbrain! LOL.

Can You Differentiate Between Left And Right?

Strange reflection of the truck in the river

I used to laugh at some of my friends when I know that they couldn’t differentiate between left and right. How tough can it be, right? Your right hand is right and your left hand is left. Oh yeah, they couldn’t differentiate.

I have no trouble identifying left, right, kanan and kiri (bahasa Malaysia). However, I have to admit that I used to have difficulty identifying them in Mandarin and Cantonese. Hey, my Chinese language used to suck big time. Anyway, I found a solution to my problem simply by remembering “what right is called”. In this case, they are you or yao in Mandarin and Cantonese. That is how I got control of my left and right in Chinese.

You can try the trick I mentioned above. If that’s not enough, below are a few other ways you can try to differentiate between left and right:

  • Your dominant hand (the one you use mainly for tasks such as writing) is your right hand. According to studies, 85-90% of a population is right handed. Therefore, your chances of getting it wrong is only 10-15% ;-)
  • When you greet someone, you shake their hand with your right hand.
  • When a soldier salutes an officer, he salutes with his right hand.
  • When you make an oath, you raise your right hand.

Hopefully these few tips can help you differentiate between left and right. Start practicing :-)

Do Not Over Indulge Yourself In The Toilet

Imagine yourself walking in a park and suddenly you feel the urge to answer nature’s call. The only toilet in sight is one of those mobile toilets. What do you do? Well, I suggest you answer the call before you end up having to buy yourself a new pair of underwear and pants.

Mobile toilet in a park

The toilet isn’t just a place for people to dispose off bodily wastes anymore. For some people, going to the toilet is a time where they enjoy a private time by themselves away from the hectic world. There are also some who enjoy reading the newspaper while “doing their business”. Meanwhile, others go to the toilet in search of new ideas to accomplish their goals.

Imagine this. After indulging yourself in a world of your own, you open the toilet door but end up walking into a meeting room full of executives. Would you freak out?

Bom Chicka Wah Wah - The Axe Effect

I came across a YouTube video about a men’s deodorant and body spray that goes by the brand name AXE (or LYNX). The video showed that the deodorant is able to attract the ladies (called the Axe effect or the Lynx effect) and make them go “Bom Chicka Wah Wah”. I guess that’s just the female version of “goo goo ga ga”.

There’s a few video about the deodorant but the one that made me laughed the hardest and longest is the one below.

According to the Wikipedia entry mentioned above, the deodorant can last up to 24 hours. Only 24 hours? Bah! We have a local product called Shahira that was claimed to last up to 72 hours. Now beat that!

If that’s not enough, there is a music video for this AXE / LYNX deodorant as well. YouTube marked the video below for those above 18 only. It shows how the axe effect takes place in a lady’s mind before she screams in ecstasy, “Bom Chicka Wah Wah”.

Bom Chicka Wah Wah
It’s the libido’s mantra
Yeah it goes Bom Chicka Wah Wah
Mmm baby come to mama

Someone get me an Axe deodorant for Christmas, pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!!! ;-)
