VVIP With Full Police Escort Using Cash Lane At Toll Plaza

I was over at a client’s place for a couple of hours yesterday. After two cups of hot mocha, lunch and some actual work done, I headed back to my office. When I was about to exit the PLUS Sungai Besi toll plaza, something rather strange happened.

Firstly, I noticed two policemen on their oversized motorbikes waiting beside the (blood sucking) toll booth. I quickly looked down to make sure I was wearing my seatbelt. It isn’t like I do not wear my seatbelt when I am driving. I just wanted to be 100% positive that I was wearing it. I was exhausted and didn’t want to have a coffee break chat with them.

Malaysia Police Officer White UniformI was having a good laugh at how one of their supposedly white police uniform was actually bluish-purplish white. It looks as if it was oversaturated in Photoshop or something. I have seen quite a few shirts like that back in my primary school years. I guess that’s why my mother always tells us not to mix white and colored clothing when washing.

Anyway, as I was paying for my toll ticket, I started hearing a loud siren behind me. I looked into the rear view mirror and saw a car with flashing lights behind me. It was either a police car or a black Proton Perdana (my memory is failing me right now). I started to panic and thought of what I needed to do next. My instant reaction was to get the hell out of the way for whoever was behind me but then I realized that I was at a toll booth. There is no place for me to squeeze into.

Malaysia Proton Perdana V6It was only less than 5 seconds later that I got my change and receipt from the toll booth attendant but it felt much longer than that. I snatched the coins from her hand and at the same time tried not to drop them. In that situation, opening the car door just to pick up a few cents is totally out of the question, although the price of petrol has risen sharply lately and the cost of some items has risen.

I stopped the car at the side of the road at the far left to have a better look at what was going on. It took me more or less 10 seconds to reach the side of the road — I had to cross 4 to 5 lanes before reaching there while making sure that I do not get hit by other vehicles. When I arrived there safely, I was still able to see the Proton Perdana passing by me. I couldn’t see exactly who was in the car but they were all dressed in suit and all — official VVIP looking.

Malaysia Toll Touch 'N Go Smart TagThen all of a sudden, all the dots seem to connect and I realized why I was feeling strange earlier on. Why on earth were they using the manual cash lane booth? One of the purposes of having police escort is to allow the VVIPs to zig-zag across the traffic without stopping. I am sure if they have allocations for a police escort, they would be able to afford a Smart Tag device. At the very least, they should be using a Touch ‘N Go card.

CASH?!

Now thinking back, I should have come out from the car to ask for an autograph before driving off. Who knows, MB Selangor, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim could have been in the car. Or maybe the PM? Deputy PM maybe?

Wait…Anwar Ibrahim! ;-)

Malaysian parliamentarian cycling on a girl's bicycle

There are better ways to experience the real hardship the average Malaysian goes through in their daily lives. However, I feel that cycling isn’t one of them. Just how many people actually cycle? Try going to work with any public transport. Use the bus, LRT, KTM, etc. Make it a “surprise visit” thing. If the operators know before hand, it’ll be just a plain “cow-dang experiment”.

If taking motorized vehicles is too “grand”, try walking.

My First Summer In Wellington

It feels “suffocating” to update a blog when there are rules involved. There are things that I can’t write and some things that I shouldn’t write. Then, there are also things that I do not wish to write. In the end, there really isn’t much to write. I guess it is time to either break some rules or to break some personal habit.

I woke up this evening and noticed that it was still bright outside the window. When I checked the time on my mobile phone, it showed 8.30pm. It couldn’t be true. How can it be so bright outside when it is already so late into the evening? With the X-Files’ soundtrack playing at the back of my mind, I start to wonder what could be happening.

Later, my sister told me that this is how it is this time of the year. The sun sets after 9pm and rises at 5am.

Myself at the Auckland Airport

After spending more than 10 hours in the air, enjoyed some (pretty good) Malaysia Airlines food, beer, wine and a Magnum drumstick, my mother and I safely arrived at the Wellington airport. We’re here for my sister’s convocation and will be spending a few weeks here before returning to Malaysia.

A nice guy who was willing to pose for me while I was waiting to take a piss.

Cinta Malaysian Kitchen in Wellington

My sister took us to a Malaysian restaurant called Cinta. It is operated by a Chinese family that came from Seremban. The food was okay and was quite reasonably priced, I guess. The thing that caught my attention was the price of their rice and roti canai. One plate of steam rice cost $2.00 while a roti canai cost $2.50. I am not even sure if the roti canai comes with kuah. I guess that means no midnight roti canai snacks until I get back home.

I am still trying to adapt to the weather here. It is summer but can be quite cold at night, early in the morning or when the wind blows. On the other hand, it can become quite warm when we enter into a store or restaurant. The constant temperature change is giving me a headache.

I experienced my first morning in Wellington today. Two words described it — freaking cold. I woke up a couple of times but just couldn’t pull myself out of bed. It was so cold that I had no choice but to “sleep it off”. After many rounds of waking up and sleeping back, a knock on my window by my sister “saved” me. I forced myself out of bed to open the door.

I told her what had happen and she asked me why I didn’t switch on the heater last night. I didn’t thought it would be that cold. In fact, I just wore a pair of shorts and a sleeveless shirt to bed last night. Thank goodness she gave me a thick blanket. :-P

Buy Nikon D80 Kit At Only RM3,480

I had a nice long chat with Jason two nights ago about him having problems with his VMI card in PayPal and some other stuff about digital cameras and photography. Only then did I realize that the price for a D80 kit was only about RM3,500.

All this while, I thought the Nikon D80 was at least RM4,500 an above. If I know about it before I bought my D40x over two weeks ago, I would have definitely opted for the D80 instead. I will only have to pay less than RM100 extra per month. Furthermore, the D80 is more powerful and (if I am not mistaken) do not have problems with auto focus in older lenses that the D40x has.

Boo-sheet betul.

Anyway, it is my fault for not researching enough. Sheeeetttt!

Sleep Early To Restore Strength

“Abang G menari lagi.”

This time it is BooHoo for me. I somehow had a feeling this day would come. I noticed the change this morning. Strangely, a check on digpagerank shows that the datacenters are either OFF or N/A.

I have been experiencing many up and down cycles for the past two weeks or so. I feel that it is eating up my reserves. I need to take a break.

Maybe an early sleep would help. Goodnight.

Happy Deepavali 2007

I am still feeling a little disorientated from the weekend break I had. I didn’t know it is Deepavali today until someone reminded me yesterday. The truth is that I knew Deepavali was in this month but didn’t know the exact date. No wonder I saw the “decoration” thing on the floor when I was at Lowyat last weekend.

I will be visiting some friends tomorrow. It will be a great time to meet up some friends whom I have not met in months. Not to forget the curry and rendang that I will stuff in my stomach until it is bloated. Even thinking about it is making me hungry. It will also be a good chance for me to grab a few shots with my digital SLR.

Happy Deepavali 2007

Happy Deepavali and happy holiday everyone.
