Why Did God Created “You”?

You are disgusting.

You are not welcomed when I am around.

I wished there was an easier way to kill You, or at least to shoo You away.

I hate You!

Life Is Short. How Are You Living It?

Some recent events around me triggered a question in me.

Life is short. How am I living it?

I’ve done some searching on Google on “life is long” and “life is short” and wanted to post the results but found another blogger who have done the same thing a year back. I guess geeks tech guys use the same methodology to approach a problem — they do the Google dance. The result for “life is short” turned out to be 10 times more compared to “life is long”. I wonder if that means that life is indeed short.

When we talk about life being short, the common advice one might receive is “live life to the fullest”. The question is, “How does one live life to the fullest?” While searching at Google, I stumbled upon a wikihow that is supposed to be a “how-to manual” that guides an individual on how to live life to the fullest. One of the steps mentioned is to have goals in life.

Some of the goals that people may want to achieve include being famous, rich, popular, power, etc. What disturbs me is the way some people chose to achieve such goals. Ethics and integrity does not seem to have a place in some of these individuals. The wikihow warned:

Don’t feel jealous of people who are either better looking or have more money, or for that matter have anything that you don’t but desire. Try to achieve it by working hard and making things work for you. Beauty and materialistic things in life don’t last very long. What lasts is your soul. So it is important to have a clean and beautiful soul.

“…important to have a clean and beautiful soul”. That sounded like some typical religious man’s advice. Seriously, does ethics and integrity matters? Who gives a damn if you achieved your goals through unrighteous means? At the end of the day, you get to live the “rich and famous” way while those talking behind your backs have “plain and ordinary” lives.

After all, life is short. How are you living it?

No More Cross-Stitch For Me

Cross-stitch is one of the “handicrafts” that I learnt from my aunty during my teenage years. I started off with something simple and slowly progressed to something more challenging like the one below.

Cross stitch framed

Marking the cloth with a pen before stitching simplifies and speeds up the stitching process. The marks will be covered by the “stitches” and should not be visible once it has completed. However, I did not mark the cloth before stitching because I didn’t want to dirty the cloth (even though I knew it won’t be visible). Due to that reason, stitching up this piece took extra time and effort.

I doubt I will ever stitch up another piece in the future. The one above took me probably 1 to 2 months to complete. I remember stitching it during the first few weeks after entering university. Imagine what my room-mate and passersby looking through my window (my room was on the ground floor) were thinking when they saw me stitching it.

If I were to auction it, how much do you think it’s worth?

Slow Loading Ads Solved And Coward Attacks On Nuffnang

I just returned from KL yesterday. It has been another tiring trip of moving, unpacking and reassembling stuffs. Believe it or not, I even did some sewing! It has been a long weekend and there will be some updates coming up. Here is a preview of what is to come.

Before I left for that trip, I was busy finding a solution for the occasional slow loading banner ads by Nuffnang that causes some blogs to load slowly. That slow down happens whenever their servers experienced massive traffic. Some of you may notice that it involves only their skyscraper ads. Since this is not my technology blog, I’ll spare you the details.

To make a long story short, I was able to find a solution to that problem. I will write a step by step guide to implement it tonight. It will be published in my technology blog. I have implemented it on this blog. You can compare the difference in how the Nuffnang skyscraper banners load in both my blogs. (ChanKelwin.com has modified codes, while TenthOfMarch.com has their default code) By implementing the modified codes, the Nuffnang’s skyscraper ads no longer affect the loading time of your blog.

On another topic, I mentioned that the battle between Nuffnang and Advertlets could have brought up yet another childish, unprofessional and coward attack. Wait for the expose while I cook up yet another spicy dish for you. There will be one or two posts explaining the technical details before I do the expose. That is to ensure better understanding on what’s happening. There might be a follow up post at the end to encourage “user participation”. That may be a little ambitious, but we’ll see what happens.

Stay tuned (over at TenthOfMarch.com that is).

Do Not Disturb Me When I Am Programming

There is a programming challenge that is left unsolved for some time now. All of a sudden, an idea came into my mind. I did some searching and found some examples that should be able to help solve the problem.

Then I found another source that said the example that I found earlier causes problem in some situations. I haven’t tested if it conflicts with my problem solving effort yet. I hope it won’t, or else I will need to start searching for another solution.

I have to leave my computer for a few hours to go out a while. Interruptions. I hate that when I am in the middle of solving a task where I can almost see the “light”. I will be back working on it as soon as I reach home later.

Come to think about it, it has been some time since I felt frustration from being disturbed while programming. It’s not anger, just frustration. The desire to solve the challenge and to see the system’s problem finally solved.

I can’t wait for that moment. I just hope it arrives. There might be more problems ahead. I hope I will be able to solve those too. Until then…
