I must admit that my interest towards Formula One (F1) has somewhat deteriorated over the years. I no longer feel the urge and willingness to stay up all night to see 20 over cars circle a race track like I used to. In fact, I have only watched one or two live races on the television this year alone.

I never really understood why at first. I thought it was because of the bad reception I have in my rented room due to a weak/bad antenna. It is also troublesome to move and set up the television just for a couple of hours of use. Maybe I was just too busy with my work the past few months. I don’t know.

After reading this article on Bernie Ecclestone’s attempt to justify his proposed “medals” scoring system, I realized why Formula One has become what it is today.

I never really understood his proposed “medals” scoring system. The whole idea of his system seems to only concentrate on rewarding the race winner. I understand that he is just trying to fix a problem — when a driver leading the drivers’ championship by a huge margin settling for lowers positions instead of risking and pushing for a win.

The Formula One 2008 Championship has just ended last weekend. Lewis Hamilton has been crowned the youngest Formula One world champion. It was one of the most exciting races I’ve seen in months, maybe a year a two. In fact, I don’t remember when the last time I ever felt so excited while watching an F1 race.

The last two laps of the Brazilian GP 2008 got half of the crowd watching the race across the globe to its feet when Sebastian Vettel overtook Lewis Hamilton. I was saying to myself, “Lewis, you did it again. You did it again!” Well, at least he was “doing it” again, that is, losing out the title right at the last moment.

But thanks (or no thanks depending on which side of the camp you are in) to Timo Glock who lost his 18 seconds lead to Hamilton on the last lap, the title was awarded to Hamilton on the last corner or two. Glock denied slowing down to allow Hamilton to pass him and puts the blame on the slick tyres he was on.

No one knows.

I am very surprised that there was no replay at all on Glock at the final lap showing him having trouble keeping his car on the road. If there is enough suspicion, I say the FIA should investigate into this matter. They can always view his telemetry data and video footage to identify any wrongdoings.

Remember when Michael Schumacher “parked” his car at the last corner in qualifying for Monaco GP a few years back? I know that nothing can change the standings as it is now. Even if Timo Glock were found guilty, it wouldn’t and shouldn’t change the driver’s championship standings.

However, some form of penalty should be taken upon Glock if he were found to be guilty. Crap like this shouldn’t be tolerated in Formula One.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for winning the 2008 driver’s championship. Felipe Massa did well as well. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for him. His family members who celebrated at the end not knowing that he had lost was a heartbreaking scene.
